The road leading to my apartment was resurfaced a few months ago. One of the speedbumps along it however, did not have its markings redrawn, and as a result, was simply a dangerous hump on the road. Someone tried spray-painting some stripes across it, but it was hardly effective.

I've forgotten about it enough to have had to brake at the last minute so many times, that I decided to do something about it. But how do you go about getting lines painted on a road?

The roads in my area fall under the Petaling Jaya City Council (Majlis Bandaraya Petaling Jaya, MBPJ), so I browsed over to their website. They have a customer relationship management system (CRM) where you can lodge complaints, which will be tracked and assigned to the relevant departments.

I typed in my complaint and attached photos. I'm not sure if the attachments actually got uploaded, as there is a limit to the size of the attachments (I had to shrink them down first) and after a few retries the system responded that a complaint had already been lodged. After a few hours I received the following email:

Aduan anda telah kami terima pada: 05/09/2018 03:12:52 PM
Butiran aduan adalah seperti berikut:-

Tarikh Aduan Diterima : 05/09/2018
Jenis Aduan : Jalan Rosak
Keterangan :

(Rather literal) Google translation:

Your complaint has been received on: 05/09/2018 03:12:52 PM
The details of the complaint are as follows: -

Complaint Date Received: 05/09/2018
Kind of Complaint: Road Damaged

Speed bump at the junction of PJU 10 / 1C and PJU10 / 5 should have:

1) signboard on the street

Without these features it is dangerous to road users.

My suggestion is that the above features are added, or the road is restored,

and literally TWO DAYS later:

There's still no signboard, but this already quite hard to miss and much safer!

This is the second time I'm using the system; the first was to get a faulty streetlamp repaired in front of my parents' house. In both cases, the response time has impressed me.

Good job, MBPJ!
