Hooked up my new toys!

Hooked up my new toys!One of my not quite work related things to do for 2015 is to set up and get into flight sims again. So I got a set of flight yoke and rudder pedals to make things a bit more real.

Although the whole kit was recognized by Ubuntu, only the yoke appeared in X-Plane. The rudder pedals where nowhere to be seen.

It turns out to be a permissions issue, and you need to create /etc/udev/rules.d/99-input-saitek.rules, and enter the lines:

# Saitek Pro Flight Rudder Pedals
KERNEL==”event*”, ATTRS{idProduct}==”0763″, ATTRS{idVendor}==”06a3″, MODE=”0666″

No idea why the yoke works out of the box but not the pedals. This is why if you use Linux, you buy a PS4 for gaming!

I’ve spent the last half hour assigning all the analog controls to their functions. And I haven’t even started on the buttons.

First impressions: A lot to learn. And also to unlearn, especially with independent rudder control.

Conclusion:I think I’m going to be on this Cessna for a loooong time.
