Jalan-Jalan Cari Makan: Mamadeedee Restaurant, Mutiara Damansara

It was late afternoon, we were slightly hungry and wondering where to eat, and ended up at a restaurant in Mutiara Damansara. No, it’s not at the Curve, Ikano, Ikea, Tesco or Cineleisure. There is apparently quite a bit more to Mutiara Damansara than just those shopping malls. There are a few housing areas, shop lots, a police station and even a school tucked away behind the main road.

A friend of Mazni’s introduced her to this place called Mamadeedee. This was my first time eating at the restaurant however.

It claims to serve “sajian melayu asli” (authentica malay cuisine), but most of the dishes are of the Nasi Padang style. It reminds me a lot of The Simpang Tiga restaurant we frequent in Ipoh. This place is quite small and cosy in comparison.

You can either have your food “nasi campur” style, i.e. everything on your plate, or “hidang” in dishes served at your table.

With only two people there wasn’t much variety we could go for. We ordered:

    • Daging Dengdeng (dried fried beef)
    • Gulai Padang Ayam (chicken in Padang-style curry)
    • Sambal Terung (Aubergine with Sambal)
    • Sup Tulang Daging (Beef Soup)
    • Sambal Cili Hijau

The Daging Dengdeng, which I ate with rice with chicken curry, was crispy but not rock-hard like in Simpang Tiga. The Beef Soup was quite thick and there were chunky pieces of bone with lots of melt-in-your-mouth meat just dripping off it. Delicious!

My favourite was the “green chilli” sambal, which went well with everything, and wasn’t too particularly hot.

Together with a limau ais and bottle of mineral water, the entire bill came up to just RM23, not bad for two people. There’s free street-side parking and also free WiFi (no registration required).

I think this is going to be another of our regular places. I’m sure it gets crowded during peak hours, and quite likely the food runs out if you go late at night, but I guess 14:00-15:00 is a good time to visit.
