Even More On Mice
Been wondering what configuration I messed up in Ubuntu that caused the X11 “middle-button-pastes-current-selection” to stop working the last few weeks.
Today, having re-installed the OS and finding the problem still there … I can conclude … it’s my mouse’s middle button that’s died! The scroll wheel works for scrolling, but pressing down on it doesn’t register — looks like a bad microswitch.
It seems like it’s a “standard” problem with the M310 mice (http://goo.gl/7Cntpi)..
Based on my classic facebook notes (http://goo.gl/GyKXXn), I bought this in Feb 2011 … I wonder if I still have the receipt and if it is worth going through the warranty claim process.
Or maybe time to get a better mouse? The M505 I got for my laptop (http://goo.gl/BJRrwk) seems to be better built, and has left-and-right wheel tilt also. Hmm … The M525 looks tempting as a replacement (http://goo.gl/4ekAbq). Decisions decisions …
UPDATE 1: Bought the M525. Is a little bit small as my previous M310, about the same size as my laptop mouse (M505). Looks pretty, tracks accurately, and solid buttons. Let’s see how long it lasts.
