Jalan Jalan Cari Makan: Italian Cone Pizza, Kota Damansara
Mazni and I noticed this new restaurant on the same row as Big Brother in Kota Damansara, so we thought we’d give it a try. It was still early in the evening, but since we had skipped lunch this was going to be an early dinner.
Italian Cone Pizza serves Italian Food (gee…) with their speciality being Cone Pizzas (gee …!). This is made from your regular pizza dough but moulded into the shape of an ice-cream cone, and filled with layers your regular pizza toppings and cheese.
It comes served on a “base” …
.. and has a “handle” so you can eat it like an ice-cream.
You can even hold it up like the Statue of Liberty …
It was served pretty fast, within 5 minutes, I suspect the cones are pre-baked and they just do a quick assembly of the filling and then a quick toasting to melt the cheese and brown it slightly. We ordered the peperoni cone pizza (~ RM10). It tastes pretty good — the dough was perfect (not too thick, not too thin), and there’s a higher filling-to-dough ratio in the cone pizza. The sauces used are rich and tasty, all in all — really good, if not weird, pizza.
The cone pizza is just right as a meal on its own for one person; if you’re hungry, probably starter, side order, or dessert would be needed. Since Mazni and I shared the cone pizza, we also had our own main meals. I played safe and ordered the fettucini carbonara:
This was good, but nothing really to write home about (so I’ll just write about it here). Mazni ordered the Penne Arrabiata:
OMG, this was really good — best I’ve ever tasted so far. If you like Arrabiata, you have to try the one here.
We also shared a banana sundae (did I mention we skipped lunch?). Just as we were done however, the waitress comes up to tell us that they actually have a special offer going on every day of the week, and for weekends, it’s a “family special”:
With the dessert, together with a mineral water and ice latte, our order came up to RM50.50 … so we got a free Aglio Olio Pasta. We packed this for supper or breakfast tomorrow.
Coffee is from Illy, and fruit concentrate is from Monin (similar to Big Brother). Oh, the restaurant is certified Halal by JAKIM — there are 3-4 pages of certificates listing over 50 menu items as being individually certified.
All in all — really great place for Italian food. Recommended.
Italian Cone Pizza is actually a franchise with their master web page at http://www.conepizza.com.my.
